Writing for Impact

Writing for ImpactBoxer It’s really not that hard to make your words have persuasive power and impact. Following a few simple communication guidelines can go a long way in helping you write powerful messages. So, the next time you write anything, try these tips: 1. Think WIFFM Always ask, “What’s in it for me?” In this case, however, the “me” is your reader. When you write anything, you need to be honest and clear about what’s in it for your reader. Do you want them to do something? Tell them why they should. Tell them what’s in it for them and you’re more likely to get the outcome you want. 2. Learn How to KISS Keep it simple, sweetheart. Written communications don’t need to be filled with elaborate language or sentences. Unless you’re a mystery writer, people don’t want to have to dig through your writing to find your meaning and decode your message; they want to understand what you’re saying in the fastest, easiest way possible. Keep your written communications simple and straightforward and you’ll get the response you’re looking for. 3. Stick with Your Story Think of every written communication you create as a little story. Give it an introduction (that could be a subject line, an executive summary or an introductory paragraph), a plot trajectory (that’s where your story unfolds and you say the things you need to say), and an ending (that could be a closing paragraph, a final summary or a recommendations section). Just stick to your story and you’ll have the clear, actionable, impactful messages you want.   We offer a terrific 2-day workshop called Writing Dynamics™. Writing Dynamics™ will give you a writing system allowing you to get the best out of your business writing. Click here for more information. Next Public Workshop dates are 26th and 27th November Central London.  ]]>
