Understanding accounting has little to do with numbers

Abacus finance from Colour Accounting from HolstUnderstanding Accounting has little to do with numbers

It’s fair to assume that most people believe they need to be a maths whizz to understand business finance.  It’s not.  It’s all in the words – that’s why it’s called Financial Literacy.

In a recent interview with South Africa’s leading financial daily paper, Business Day, Colour Accounting International’s founder and president Peter Frampton explains that “Accounting literacy means you are fluent and clear in the language of business.” The Colour Accounting movement is gaining momentum in South Africa, with support from the South African Institute of Business Accountants and several leading colleges throughout the country. Significantly, Hilton College has reported a 38% increase in enrolment in accounting since introducing Colour Accounting concepts to their teaching. Learning is much easier when the teaching methods are through ‘doing and visualising’. That’s how Colour Accounting works. Participants make their tools and use colour and movement to illustrate financial activity. There’s not a spreadsheet in sight. Click here to read the full Business Day article.
