It seems that the Minister for Schools in the UK has chosen not to ‘impose’ thinking skills on schools. This is unfortunate.
We know that the teaching of simple thinking tools increases performance in every subject. We know that teaching thinking increases employment opportunities. We know that teaching thinking reduces criminal convictions among the violent by up to ninety percent. Teaching knowledge by itself does none of these things. Knowledge does not increase self-esteem or allow youngsters to take charge of their lives. There is a need for the teaching of thinking tools to those who make the decisions in education. Around the world there is an increasing number of countries who have made this teaching mandatory on the curriculum.Edward de Bono, 26th February 2007
