It’s now an annual tradition at Holst to do our bit and collect donations for the West Berkshire Food Bank. Last week, Holst Group MD Iain Chalmers & Client Specialist Chloe Wright took a trip to Newbury to deliver our haul and find out a bit more about how a food bank operates. It was a nerve-wracking trip. Iain had an electric car on loan and wasn’t entirely sure whether the battery would last the journey. Finally, after an emergency charge-up and coffee stop at Membury Services on the M4, they made it. It was worth the drama – what an amazing place with some incredibly impressive volunteers! They met Colin and Daphne (pictured) who manage two small warehouses. Volunteers take in donations, weigh them, sort by product and expiry date and then pack them into crates ready to be sent to the distribution centres. Crates are stacked ceiling high with earliest expiry dates near the front to ensure a very low wastage rate. Orders come in from the distribution centres and volunteers pick items from extremely well organised shelves, weigh and then package them ready for distribution. We were thrilled to find out that our donations weighed a total of 127kg!! Colin and Daphne were extremely welcoming and very grateful for all of our donations. Well done again Team Holst and Friends!Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
