Learn To Be Spontaneous!

SkateboarderSpontaneity makes life exciting and invigorating. In work like in life, it takes away dull and dreary everyday routine to give you a chance to feel free and exuberant. Spontaneity means taking chances and overcoming your fears. Following are some tips to help you get your spontaneity on and be successful in the workplace.

  • Say Yes!
Opportunities come knocking at every door but only the spontaneous take them up. Don’t be afraid to take up new and exciting projects and create links with different professionals. Being spontaneous means grabbing each opportunity by the horns and taking a leap of faith. Forget about your calendar and planning, just say Yes to that opportunity!
  • Take baby steps
Spontaneity does not mean extravagance. You don’t have to be dramatic. Begin with little things like pitching the new idea you have been holding onto in the staff meeting or volunteering to head a unique project. It could be anything, as long as it isn’t routine and boring.
  • Fuel your curiosity
Spontaneity is born out of wonderment. Ever wonder what it would be like to run your own business? Or how wonderful it would be to work in a different country? Give in to your curiosity and find the answers you are looking for. Chances are you will be pleasantly surprised.
  • Welcome the unknown
Most people are afraid of surprises. It is the fear of unknown that prevents spontaneity. Tackle the fear that a new presentation style might be ridiculed or an innovative marketing approach may be met with criticism. Spontaneity does not mean getting over your fear in a day. It is a process, start small and soon you’ll see that the unknown is a pretty incredible place.
  • Don’t worry, expect happy
Negative thoughts and expectations kill spontaneity. You need to think happy thoughts and know that everything will turn out okay. Spontaneity means taking a leap of faith, knowing that only happiness will catch you. If you’re positive at work, others will realise it and who knows, your boss may think of you as “manager material”. So, don’t be afraid of the unknown. Learn to take calculated risks so that you can excel in your professional life.   We offer a terrific 2 day workshop called Think On Your Feet ® that will give you dynamic structures to strategically position your message giving you the spit and polish your delivery deserves.
