Product ManagementClassic de Bono: … Product Management

Over the years Dr Edward de Bono has shared great insights through his messages. This series of blogs revisits some of those highlights.

Product Management

I was invited to open the World Congress on Product Management in Berlin. Product management is becoming an increasingly important area. New ventures, changes, innovation are coming to be treated as projects which require a different set of management skills from ‘maintenance management’. As with architecture, there is a great need to marry creativity with precise organisational detail. This is the very opposite of what I call ‘crazytivity’, which is just change for the sake of change, with no delivered value at the end. More and more areas are coming to recognise the central position of creativity in all thinking. Even if some action is purely a matter of routine, there can be creativity in deciding which routine to use, or in choosing the outcome of the action. All thinking, no matter how subject specific, requires the ability to be creative.
