'optimisation' and 'innovation'

Risk and reward from Edward de Bono from HolstOver the years Dr Edward de Bono has shared great insights through his messages. This series of blogs revisits some of those highlights.

‘optimisation’ and ‘innovation’

There has always been a clash between ‘optimisation’ and ‘innovation’. This is well known in the world of design. Do you perfect the existing design direction? Or, do you open up a new direction? There are many factors to consider including feasibility and ease of acceptance. Fundamentally, do we adjust to the world in which we find ourselves or do we seek to change the world? The answer is that we need to do both. That is easier said than done. There is risk in anything that is really new and reward in anything which is only slightly new.
