Over the years Dr Edward de Bono has shared great insights through his messages. This series of blogs revisits some of those highlights.
Getting Elected
Democracy is fast being reduced to “the skill of getting elected”. This may not have much to do with the skill of governing. Given still photographs of candidates who had run against each other in an election, students picked the winner of the election seventy per cent of the time! This suggests that looks play rather a large part in voting preferences. No name, policies or party affiliations were given. You might claim that if no further in formation is given you might as well vote on “looks”. But these were actual elections and the people voting had full information about the candidates, party affliations, policies etc. etc. So they did not have to vote on looks.Edward de Bono, 25th May 2007
