Over the years Dr Edward de Bono has shared great insights through his messages. This series of blogs revisits some of those highlights.
Cricket Creativity
I am sure that I have told this story before on this site. Some months ago the captain (Steve Waugh) and the coach (John Buchanan) of the Australian Cricket Team came to see me in London and said they were interested in new ideas in cricket. When I was next in Sydney I gave a short seminar to management and some players. Since then the team has won everything – including a thrashing of the English test team. Some sports journalists have called it the best team in the history of cricket. There are at least two possible explanations. The first is that my talk on the fundamentals of creativity led to these fundamentals being translated into a cricket context and that helped with the success. The second explanation is that asking for my help was a symptom of an open-minded search for improvement and new thinking. It was that attitude that lead to their success. I simply cannot imagine the English cricket team asking for a seminar on creativity!!!Edward de Bono nmt, 14th June 2003
