Over the years Dr Edward de Bono has shared great insights through his messages. This series of blogs revisits some of those highlights.
Mission, purpose and achievement are important for many people. Some people are not content to survive from day to day. Some people are not content with the mission of making money and looking after their family (they may not have a family and not much prospect of making money). Some forms of achievement are too remote. You may learn to play tennis so that one day you may play at Wimbledon. You may enter politics so that one day you may be part of the government. There is a lack of more immediate achievement and purpose. I suspect this is one aspect of motivation for terrorism. There is mission, purpose, achievement and belonging to a group. There is also the immense publicity that results. Society is not very good at setting up possibilities for positive achievement in the short term.Edward de Bono, 6th July 2007
